a ghost story.

Hello readers, today I offer you you a little ghost story, I challenged myself to write a normal type story, well it’s not quite that, but I hope you enjoy it.

Todays Dylan quote “ My patron saint is fighting with a ghost, he’s always off somewhere when I need him most” Good Eh?

Please try and find time to comment, else I don’t know how well I’m doing.

Vagabonds and Thieves.

Chapter One, Lisa.

Lisa lay in her bed, clutching the picture of her recently dead husband, tears drying in her eyes. Jerry had only been thirty two when he died, their love for each other had been good and strong, she was still sleeping in the spare room at the back of the house, she couldn’t face their old bedroom yet. Lisa had been trying to get up for nearly an hour, to make herself an Ovaltine, it was 1am and no sign of sleep.

There was a noise coming from the kitchen, was it the cat? No it wasn’t the cat, someone was coming up the stairs, the door into the main bedroom creaking open. Lisa was petrified, she lay there frozen in place. After what seemed like an hour, although it was only ten minuets, Lisa decided to get up, stand with her back against the door and make as much racket as she could. She kicked the chair next to the door banged on the door and screamed. She heard footsteps go down the stairs and the kitchen door slam. Lisa flung open the door, and ran down the few stairs to the landing window, just in time to see Jerry,s electric Audi racing off the drive its wheels spinning, an odd green glow following it.

Lisa ran back up the few stairs, into her room grabbed her phone, and dialled 999. The police were there within a few hours, let me take down your particulars Miss, constable Pervert said, he turned and smirked at his mate, constable Shady. Constable Pervert’s Smirk soon disappeared, as a cold chill went up his spine, and Lisa said “It’s Mrs actually, my husband was killed defending our property a few weeks ago, because you lot couldn’t” “Oh I’m sorry to hear that Mrs Victim, why don’t you tell me what happened, and what’s missing” Lisa did exactly that, it was quite a long list, including much jewellery her husband had bought her over their  eleven years of marriage. “Thank you Mrs Victim, I’ll give you a crime number, PC Pervert sat at Lisa’s coffee table, and started scribbling, it seemed to be taking an inordinate amount of time, eventually the Constable stood and handed her an A5 sheet of paper with four and a half rows of digits on it.

    Chapter Two, The Incompetants.

PC’s Pervert and Shady got in their car and drove back toward the police station, siren blaring, blue lights flashing, time was getting on, the chip shop would close soon. Pervert turned to Shady and said “She, was a bit of all right” Then “Turn the heater up it’s a bit cold in hear” After their lunch, they finally arrived at the station, handed in their report, and went for coffee. The two had not been sat long talking about football, when Inspector Thumbprint called them into his office. “ What’s all this about a green glow following this stolen Audi?” “Don’t know gov, that’s just how she described it” said Pervert. “Ah yes and that’s another thing “SHE!” I’ve just had a phone call from Mrs Victim, about your lascivious looks, and how you addressed her” Mrs Victim’s still getting. over the loss of her husband, try and tread a bit more gently. Now then, this green glow?” “ Probably just the street lights shining on the exhaust gov” “Mm, the exhaust from the electric Audi, with the light from the blue LED street lamps?

Oh, sorry gov” “Yeh well it’s not exactly Sherlock Holmes stuff is it Constable? Go on get out! And, if you should go back to Mrs Victims at any time, don’t trip over that car  charger cable.

Chapter Three The Thief.

Terry Leaf, or T Leaf as he was known, sat in his grubby little terrace house, wondering how much heroine he could buy, with the sale of the Audi, and the jewellery, he’d nicked the night before. When headlights shone through his curtains and the grime they were coated in. His first thought was”pigs” he squinted through a tiny gap in the curtains. That Electric Audi, what’s that doing here? They’d said it would be moved on. There was banging on the door, T leaf started to run to the back door, but it was too late, the two lads had barged down the door and were on him. “We want the money back for this box of nails you sold us, plus the £250.00 quid we spent on the charger so’s we could sell it on, best add another £500.00 for our trouble. “Ok, Ok what’s wrong with the car?” Keeps taking us back to Rich street where you nicked it from, and the heater doesn’t work, it’s always freezing cold in there” T Leaf went to his safe, and took out £11,000.00 “Here keep the change and get lost, just do me one favour though and ditch the car, the boys got in the car, they’d just finished discussing the details of T Leafs safe, when the car veered off , towards Rich Street, on its own accord, and ground to halt outside Lisa’s house, the two riff-raff making a swift get away. Lisa saw it and wondered what the hell was going on.

 Chapter Four, Trousers.

Lisa phoned the police, to tell them the Audi had reappeared, she reeled off

The hundred plus digit crime number, and this time the two fish and chip scented constables were there in an hour. They were very polite this time, inspected the car with Lisa and recommended she contact her insurance company. The two returned to their patrol car, and pondered what kind of scam Mrs fancy pants was trying to pull. They had just got off the posh estate, when they saw a young man in a hoody run down an alleyway with something under his arm. Pervert, stopped the car and he and Shady gave pursuit. They were halfway down the alley when they were stopped, just stopped, no one there!

Then their belts were undone and their trousers pulled down, removed and seemed to fly of their own volition over a wall, into someone’s back yard. Pervert and Shady, couldn’t even get security guard jobs at a nursery after that.

Chapter five. The Fence.

T Leaf got back to his house after being out trying to score drugs, to find his boarded up front door smashed in again, he entered and found his safe empty. On the way in he’d tripped over a parcel wrapped in news paper, he went back and picked it up, put it on his table and opened it up. The contents were the jewellery from the Rich Street job, and a note which read, I don’t want these, I’ll send the boys round for the money later. Then he noticed the headline on the newspaper, suspected robber and murderer of Jerry Victim found dead in local pond, circumstance’s unknown.

That night T Leaf had a visit from the fence’s boys, who in their own limited way told  T Leaf about the strange goings on at their bosses place, and no matter how much his potential buyers loved the jewellery it was literally too hot. They then told T Leaf they were sorry about the safe but they would be back tomorrow, for the money plus interest.

Early next morning T  Leaf was at the local police station begging to be let in. He did five years in prison, he did have some company though!

Chapter six. Sorted.

Lisa woke up to bright sunshine, but it had been a cold night, the windows were misted up, and on the landing window was written a message.

“ JOB DONE I LOVE YOU.
