I’ve had a little dig at Christmas in my verse today, but, could someone tell me ? I’m not a religious person but isn’t Christmas supposed to be a time of peace ? If so then why is there this fascination with violence surrounding it. from toy soldiers, to violent movies and tv programs. I abhor violence and the portrayal of it at the bet of times, it lowers the value of life, inculcates young people into that violent culture, and it just is not civilised.

What Could I Do Less Of.

I could eat less that would make me thinner,
Skip breakfast, brunch, lunch and even dinner.
I could sleep less, not sleep when I’m awake,
I could have less birthdays, I wouldn’t miss the cake.

I could spend less, ‘cause I only get a meagre pension,
Brush my hair less ? No I’ve got too little to mention.
I could complain less about politicians how they lie and cheat, but then I’d have to stifle my conscience, that would be a feat.

I could go on holidays less, after all I can’t afford it,
I could stop the jokes and comic verse, but all I’ve got’s my wit. When they bring in taxing air I won’t waste my breath, I may as well stop drinking water too, and just wait for Mr Death.

I could do without as much Christmas, it’s been three months already, less Christmas cake, less mulled wine that always makes me unsteady. Let’s keep it please to just three days, that way it will be special,
To put up with all the arguing and rows I just don’t have enough potential.

All words Meadowhead Bard.
