I love that line “He Not Being Born Is Busy Dying” from Bob Dylan’s “It’s alright Ma I’m Only bleeding” from the album Bringing It All Back Home” There’s a hint of Dylan in my verses third line also “ Try imagining a place where it’s always safe and warm, come in she said I’ll give you shelter from the storm” the track “Shelter From Storm” from the “Blood On the Tracks” album.
The following is much lighter, I can’t hope to match Dylan’s poetry and imagery.
I Saw the Light.
I lived in constant darkness, until I saw the light,
Never contested my existence, never put up a fight.
Happy in my ignorance, I felt safe and warm,
No such thing as danger, in any shape or form.
How long did it go on for, this age of innocence ?
I just can’t remember, of light and dark no sense.
I lived in that darkness the thrumming world beyond,
If I was ever asked a question, I could not respond.
This way of life was starting to have restrictions,
Tighter, tighter and ever tighter constrictions.
Then every thing turned upside down,
Pressure, pressure, on me bearing down.
So it was I saw the light, for the first time in my life,
I didn’t know it then of course, I was bound for trouble and strife.
I was hanging by my feet, be slapped about my bum,
Next thing I knew, I was in the arm of mum.
