It Takes a Worried Man.

Daily writing prompt
What are you most worried about for the future?

I’ve mentioned before in my blog, I am a better person now after my cancer six years ago. If I’d have been the man I am now forty years ago we would never have had our two boys, such is my fear for the way the world is heading. Not just the wars but the violence and general acceptance of violence in the media. Maybe the two are connected? If youth is inured to violence, then their acceptance of going off to war to kill and maim is greater. The ancient Romans had a name for it “Bread and Circuses” Keep the public occupied, and inure them to violence at the same time, e.g gladiatorial contests and all. My wife and I don’t watch a lot of tv, but sometimes of an evening we like a nice movie. Try this for yourselves, scroll through the tv listings, Disney or whatever, or look through a rack of DVD’s try and find something non violent. Then of course after the violence theirs greed, if one doesn’t get us the other will. The only ones that can save us are the ones that can see, let’s hope there’s enough of us, for our children’s sake.

Bob Dylan quote alert “You’ve thrown the worst fear that can ever be hurled, fear to bring children into the world, Threatening my baby unborn and unnamed, you ain’t worth the blood that runs through you veins”

I can’t really beat that, but I’ve done something on similar lines. Masters of war was one of Dylan’s early masterpieces, the last verse raises the hair on the back of my neck every time I hear it, give it a listen.

Warmongers.

W, Is for worry, what you’ll do to our world.

A, Is for all the battle flags being unfurled.

R, Is for religion used and as an excuse.

M, Is for murder, you we hereby accuse.

O, Is for optimism quickly running out.

N, Is fot now stop can’t you hear people shout.

G, Is for go just leave us in peace.

E, Is for everyone don’t kill my kids, nephews and niece.

R, Is for rats have more right to live than you.

S, For sorry you can’t be forgiven for the evil you do.

Thanks to Paolo Nutini, for the title, hope he doesn’t mind.
Promise something lighter next time.

    1. Thank you, which song do you prefer? Worried man or masters of war?

  1. Bread and circuses was Juvenal. As true today as it was back then.
