Salmon Students.

I attended day release courses from school, for various trades, plumbing, electrical etc. One such course was at a technical college called Salmon Pastures for bricklaying. None of my fellow students were salmon, although I have known cleverer salmon. Said students had a particular dislike for anyone who wanted to learn, and I was one of the latter. I remember one evening when class turned out I was kicked in the backside by four boys with steel toe cap boots all the way up the college drive to the bus stop. One of the lecturers recognised I had potential and arranged an apprenticeship for me at a decorative plaster company. It wasn’t physical bullying there it was psychological, It was physical at the college I went to train though. A particularly hobby of a group of students was something called windmilling, They would come up behind one shouting windmill, swing their arm round whilst holding a fist then hit one at the base of one’s spine. Good fun, well for them anyway.
Whilst on the subject of bullying, I wonder what a man like myself should be called, one who that is, is not religious but totally opposed aggression and violence. Of course the word gentleman springs to mind, but then gentleman have espoused such barbaric sports as boxing, fox hunting, hare coursing etc, etc. Not too long ago men who bought, owned and sold slaves were often called gentlemen.

Principal.

My neighbour is a famous man the principal of a college, but as for the practicalities of life, of that he has no knowledge,
He can speak Latin he can speak Greek,
But has no answers to questions you seek.

He can’t change a light bulb or wire up a plug,
If you ask him about brotherly love he’ll just give a shrug.
He does know how to manipulate those under his control. Teaching to how obtain power, and get rich, is his only goal.
