Meadowhead Bard

Random and surreal poetry satire and short stories.

Latest, latest read all about it.

A good leader would go something like this……“500 SPACE CRAFT HOVERING ABOVE EARTH” Followed by “All world leaders have been taken, the world is being held in stasis, the aliens have promised to clear the Earth of greed and corruption. Army and navy leaders around the globe have reported none of their weapons are functional”

Reporter, Phil Din.

This is dystopian, Orwellian, but to most “Oh well Ian !”

DEAR MR ALIEN.

Dear Mr Alien come and save us please. The devils that rule this world have brought is to our knees. The carrot has gone, the stick remains, with whips in equal measure. We are nought but fodder now to keep the rich in pleasure.

The fields full of oil wells, the sea a stagnant pond. Christian would leave this place, go back to the Slough of Despond. Where once were simple pleasures, now only virtual reality exists When the sun is highest in the sky still the darkness it persists

Please Mr Alien, this was once a beautiful garden just a few enclaves now exist but to us mere mortals das forboden. When they’ve finished here they’ll find fresh ground to raze. Then it could be your turn, numbered will be your days

They’re out there now I can hear their machinery droning. From the pain of their drills I can hear our poor Earth moaning. Their building ships and rockets, made out of Earths own flesh. Oh pity you Mr Alien when they come to need pastures fresh.

All words Meadowhead Bard.

I apologise for the layout of the poem, I’ve lost the app that sorted it and Mr WordPress editor has been up to his tricks again,

  1. This dystopian “latest, latest — read all about it” take feels like a wild mash-up of headline panic and poetic protest — what inspired you most about the idea of aliens saving us from greed and corruption, and do you see it as satire, hope, or a bit of both?

    1. Hi thanks for your comment. I know what is happening to the world, sometimes the best way to get through to people is humour. I get an idea, then just let my mind take it, most of the time I don’t know the end until I get there. I’m also fascinated by the fact that most people consider any potential visit by aliens to be malevolent, I guess that’s mankind projecting his own nature on them, perceiving everything a threat, because we are a threat to everything.
