The Football Game of Doom.

I’m loving this prompt, it’s given me the opportunity to have a go at two of my pet hates, which in a weird sort of way amount to the same. Professional football whilst fine as a game, has turned into a moronic tribalistic, charade ruled by money. Then tribalism on the world stage with warmongers turning more and more rabid by the day.

The Football Game of Doom.

He kicked the ball, it went between the posts
It was then he decided, who he hated most
That man in black, that awful man, deprived him of his goal
He decided there and then ref would have to pay the toll

He stared at him, held two fingers way up high
Then he walked right up to him, and poked him in the eye
The rest of his team all cheered at this violent deed
The referee was holding up a card, to say that he must cede

Fights were breaking out between the red and yellow teams
From both ends of the stadium, the fans emitting steam
Bottles and cans were coming down like pouring rain
One player did try to stop it all, the only one with half a brain

The police couldn’t cope, the army were called in
Tanks were parked all around the ground, like that wall that split Berlin
Now Vladimir Putin a fan of everything thats red
“I’m going send a nuclear missile then all the Blues will soon be dead

President Trump didn’t like this, tweeted “Death to all the commies”
So now England was a battle ground, at the mercy of these two comics
Germany and France took opposing sides
Pakistani, India, China all took up arms and more besides

The world was now a fireball of baseless bickering
Existence teetering on the edge, the flame of hope now flickering
This is it, this is how humanity could end
All because of a mindless moron, his pride trying to defend.

All words Meadowhead Bard.

I get your drift but football also has the capacity to unite people and work as a force for good. That said, death to all Blades…
