Obviously, there are countries much worse off than the UK, terrible atrocities for the gain of power, wealth and that all consuming monster called growth. I live in the UK though so I just write about the country I know, everywhere else I can only generalise.
CHILD of the FIFTIES.
I’m a working class child of the fifties, every year’s been hard
Sold off by various governments, sold by the inch and the yard
Sold down the line used and abused
Then in retirement a decent living refused.
Thinking about the pennies, thinking about the Pounds
Not for us thinking of dress suits and gowns
Thinking about our children, protecting their health
The same children the rich need to provide all their wealth
The same children that will be sent off to war
Not for us to decide and know what it’s for
We are not and cannot ever be free
All because we were born in the wrong family.
All words Meadowhead Bard.
