I mention sacrilege in my verse today, I’m worried I may be being a little sacrilegious myself in adapting one of the greatest lyrics of all time to my own ends.
Im talking of course of Bob Dylan’s Mr Tambourine Man, unfortunately best know for the Byrds truncated version. As for my subject, how can someone shallow enough to wear a fake tan, ever be taken seriously.
Hey Mr Tangerine Man
Hey Mr Tangerine Man don’t sing your lies to me
I’m not stupid and I know just where you’ll take us to
Hey Mr Tangerine Man don’t sing your lies to me
Only the stupid and ignorant come following you
Take me on a trip down the rat trap of your mind, a trap set for the blind
a prison for the kind, past the ruins of your war, broken economies and more
All your sacrilege and hate, your broken mental state, for your passing I can’t wait
I dream one day someone sane will follow you
Hey Mr Tangerine Man don’t sing your lies to me
I’m not stupid and I know just where you’ll take is to
Hey Mr Tangerine Man don’t sing your lies to me
Only the stupid and ignorant come following you
I’m ready to go anywhere, away from your charade, now your servants you’ve betrayed, your debts can’t be repaid obscurity and mortality they wait for you
When you’ve past Oh great bombast, your memory will be erased, you can take your place with the lunatics of history that have preceded you
And hey Mr Tangerine Man don’t sing your lies to me
I’m not stupid and I know just where you’ll take is to
Hey Mr Tangerine Man don’t sing your lies to me
Only the stupid and ignorant come following you
All words Meadowhead Bard.
